Les Bar
It was the first time I went to a les/gay bar. Mox wasn't exactly for les/gays only (I think) since some of the websites I went to showed that there were university events etc being held there. Anyway, despite my enthusiasm and excitement in finally getting to go to a gay bar (especially since my field of research is on homosexuals), I was getting cold feet at the doorstep of the bar and had to "rest" awhile at Maxwell Food Centre before summoning my guts to go in. Thanks to my friend who reassured that it will be alright, everything was fine. The place differed greatly from what it looked like in my imagination, besides being dark and serving alcohol. The place was a tiny unit on the 4th level of a short 4-level shophouse like building, and when we went, it was packed to the brim. Older les were leaving, and some younger ones were making their way there. It was Andro Nite, so we had to pay an entry fee of $2. Andro Nite calls for people to dress in normal Andro wear like singlets and jeans. Some actually did, but not most. The most amazing thing was... everyone was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! Everyone was very good looking. From the bartenders (hmm.. I wonder if they are gay) to the butches (some kept staring at me - checking me out or wondering if I'm les?) to the femmes (stared at me too - afraid I'll steal their beaus or thinking what an ugly femme?) and andros and etc. It was pure eye candy, and signalling to me that there is still hope for me! Saw someone I know from NUS (not a surprise, since I suspected) and met up with some old friends there. Sadly, didn't get to see some other people that I wanted to see. Drank a bottle of Bacardi Breezer that cost a bomb (thanks for buying me the drink, T), and soon after was high. That's bad. I think my alcohol tolerance has dropped drastically! From now on, no more drinks. Since it was Andro Nite, there was a performance by a drag queen from Malaysia. He performed a rather disgusting dance and told some embarrassing jokes that people not from Sing/Mal will not understand. Most of the couples were butch-femmes, but there were some pure butches kissing and some pure lesbians mucking around in the dark. Besides les, there were also gays. Most of the gays seem to be on rather good terms with the les, and also physically close. There was a couple (girl/guy) holding hands, and it made me wonder if they were straight/crooked. Both seemed crooked to me though. Perhaps it's a best friend thing. On the whole, it was an enjoyable experience! Final closure to my research!
