Food, food, and more food...
I can't believe it. After promising myself that I'll go on a salad diet for the next 3 weeks, I just had 2 big dinners tonight. Tried Delifrance's Pasta Gratin which SUCKED! It looked good in the pictures, but it was an extremely tiny portion that didn't even fill one-fifth of my stomach, let alone make my $5.95 worth it. I think its worth (taste, quality, and quantity) is probably less than a dollar. I realized that Delifrance has been coming up with new items to attract customers, but frankly, if it's not gonna give the customer value for money, it will close down soon. And guess what? They are selling their own brand of tea! For goodness' sake.... It's Delifrance.. What more can I say?
In stark contrast is the wonderful Sakae Sushi (my favorite restaurant and most frequent haunt of all times). They just had a menu makeover and the dishes looked even more tempting than usual! Of course, my trusty friend and I had a hearty meal there (despite the yucky Delifrance Pasta and Rice Gratin before). Let's see what we had:
1. Cha soba
2. Chawan mushi (x2)
3. Yasai tempura (x2)
4. Agedashi tofu
5. Sakae Salad
6. Salmon Sashimi
The Agedashi Tofu is now served on a nice black plate, and in 3 pieces (of coz with increased prices) instead of 2. Sakae Salad didn't seem to be on the menu before, but it looks like our Chinese yusheng. It is basically seasoned seaweed (chuka wakame), seasoned jellyfish, sweetened egg (tamago), sweetened beancurd skin, fried tempura bits (yes, just the tempura powder fried!), and fried salmon skin placed in little lumps creating an outer circle on the plate, and thinly sliced raw carrot and radish constituting the inner circle, with 3 slices of salmon sashimi topping the beautiful array. It looked too good to be eaten! That's also the reason why we added on another dish of Salmon Sashimi. Heh. To eat with the salad!
And now I'm preparing for the Mahjong party on Saturday. My shifus are coming to teach me, and I will be cooking for them! Currently, on the menu:
Appetizer
Warm focaccia (Italian flatbread) with olive oil dip (extra virgin olive oil, chopped roasted garlic, and chopped fresh oregano)
Button mushrooms sauteed with lemon juice, mustard, olive oil, chopped chives, Italian dressing, and dried tarragon
Main Course
Linguine drenched in creamy alfredo sauce with fresh prawns and squid rings
Dessert
Cheesecake in Muah Chee Style
Tea/Coffee
An array of teas awaits you... Pure teas (Ceylon, Assam, Green tea), blended teas (Earl Grey, Darjeeling, English Breakfast), fruit teas (Peach tea, Wildberry tea), floral teas (Jasmine).
Coffee: Nescafe Gold... (err..not really a coffee person)
Anyway, everything else sounds good and I'm so ready to start whipping up a storm! Heh. Wish myself all the best, and wish everyone eating it all the best (that they won't get diarrhoea after that). But my witnesses (Dy, Sab, Sam, Alv, KHS, TGX, Mich, Art, Tina, Dad, Mum, Sis, Gran, etc.) can testify that my food won't kill! :P
