Early Morning Blog
Had a fairly exciting morning today. Fairly exciting only because I'm usually in bed having exciting dreams of high-speed chases and adventures in fantasylands similar to those you see in Spy Kids or cartoons. Had to wake up at an unearthly hour this morning because I was scheduled to do a tooth extraction at 9am. No, I'm not a dentist. I actually went to have my tooth extracted. And boy, did it hurt! Ok. I'm lying. It didn't hurt then, but the numbness is beginning to wear off, and I can feel the familiar ache developing. Ouch!

On the way back from the dentist, I decided to take the NEL and the bus instead of taking a cab so that I can save some money (note: overspent before the GSS). See how frugal I am! I even keep used paper so that I can use the back of it to write drafts! Okok. Spending $1 on a can of Bubble Tea with Apple (what the heck is that?!) just so that I can get the straw to drink water from in my disabled condition and using two pieces of tissue to wrap around the can so that my hand doesn't get frostbite do not exactly correspond with my new image of frugality. What can a girl do? We are all born to shop!

As I was walking home from the bus stop, everything around me seemed strange and unfamiliar. A middle-aged lady was walking in front of me, and she was pulling the leaves off the plants by the roadside, for no apparent reason. Then, as if she has eyes at the back of her head, she turned and stared at me momentarily, before turning back to her leaf-plucking morning exercise. When I got to the park near my house, two tall Chinese women were walking with umbrellas toward the road leading down to my house. One wore a striped shirt with a pair of checked pants, and the other had a camera in her hand! Bizarre! They don't seem like locals.

After overtaking them, I headed down the road, and as I was nearing my house, I saw a boy about half my age in school uniform walking toward the main road. It was 10.15am. School starts at 7.30am in Singapore. Seems like Singapore is not such a rule-enforcing country after all. Or perhaps his mum wanted him to accompany her to the market. Maybe Singapore schools should fine parents for truancy, since we are, after all, a British colony.
