Eden Cafe

Went to a newly opened cafe today at Club St. It opened only yesterday, and being a non-foodie, the only reason why I knew about it is because my uncle owns it. Heard rave reviews about the food there from my cousins who brought their friends there to celebrate their birthdays, and was excited to taste the delightful-sounding food.

The cafe is smaller than I had imagined, but the decor is beautiful. A black feature wall with a built-in glass shelf immediately caught my eye. Neatly lined on the shelf were Ikea jars filled with all kinds of flowers and leaves. Every imaginable kind. The other walls of the cafe were white with a modern-looking cornice lining the top of the walls. Tables were a dark chocolatey brown with black trims, the row of cushion seats lining one wall had red floral cushions (much like the design of the logo) while the single seats were greyish-brown in color. Lamps were hanging over every table - red, black, white. Spotlights lit up the place and gave it a cozy glow that makes you feel that you are in another world, one outside the glaring sun and humid heat of Singapore. Near the entrance is a display refrigerated shelf full of cakes that you cannot miss. Tiramisu, chocolate, cheesecakes in all shapes and sizes line the shelves. I was given a tour around the cafe by the co-owner (he did not know that I was related at that point in time), and a beautiful garden lay yonder, with two small tables making up a private dining setting. A personal waiter can be arranged to serve you at that private corner should you wish to.

Upon opening the menu, I was astonished to see that there are at least a hundred different types of tea available. I'm a tea lover so that was definitely a pleasant surprise! Floral tea comprised the majority of the teas listed, but I surprised to see Chinese tea there too! Despite this being more of a Western-style cafe (think pastas, cakes, pies), Chinese tea was definitely unexpected. The dishes also had flower names to it - orchid pasta, hibiscus cheesecake (the bestselling cake), and what is more amazing is that the flowers and herbs come from the garden behind. The ingredients that go into the food are mostly freshly harvested and made on the spot. Sauces are also all made on their own - mayo, pesto sauce, even kueh pie tee cups! Recipes are all created by the co-owner who is the chef and the brains behind the business. You can even order a meal in advance - just tell him when you are going, and what food you do not eat, what food you eat, and he will whip up something for you. And finally, the best thing of all is that the prices are extremely reasonable - $5-6 for cakes/finger food, $16+ for pastas. This place is definitely a must-try!
