Britney Spears: 'I truly hit rock bottom'
That's the headlines you see on CNN.com. It is sad that we are all humans, and we all make mistakes, but celebrities' mistakes are singled out, magnified, and exaggerated for the world to see. Just last night, I was reading some comments on Lindsay Lohan's recent arrest. Many were criticizing her behavior - party animal, slut, unprofessional actress, stripping to win an Oscar. People have also criticized Britney a lot when she was going through a nasty divorce. It is easy to criticize others, but what people don't see are that these are two young girls - 20 and 25, who have been through a lot in life, perhaps more than anyone of us who lead sheltered lives have been through. They have been exposed to the media since young, had media running after them, had tabloids using their lives as entertainment fodder. Lindsay came from a broken family, and to achieve what she has so far is remarkable. Hobbies aside, her professionalism and commitment to her profession is something that no one I know of really has. People complain that their job sucks, everyone's looking to change their jobs, no one wants a job that requires manual labor. Acting may seem glamourous, but do you see the research and hard work that these actresses put in? Meryl Streep reads a lot about her character to get herself into character, Lindsay trains with a stripper for her role, getting bruises along the way. In addition to all these, they still have to put up with the paparazzi, most of whom are unkind and sway as the wind blows. Lindsay and Britney are just 20 and 25. What Britney said on her blog resonates: 'It is like we are never good enough.'
