Childlikeness and Lack of Focus

As I am preparing for my qualifying exams, I started pondering why I am unable to focus on my work, and why I have not been able to focus on my work recently. And I realized that it could be child-likeness. When you're more childlike, you tend to have a shorter attention span, you tend to lose focus on what is important and what is not, you tend to want to play more, to choose the option that is more appealing. It is mastery of control over your life that one lacks. No doubt being more childlike brings you moments of happiness, joy and excitement, and you may feel that you are leading an overwhelmingly good life, but being more childlike also may prompt you to react to negative events in a more emotional manner, a more childish manner, simply put. Think about those people who get high on drugs - they experience the thrill and exhilaration of something that is probably not present in their life but hallucinated, but their low periods are extremely low. This brings on a roller-coaster effect. God gave us a choice, and it is when we make the decision to live life as an adult, and be responsible for what we do, that we experience control of our lives and perhaps the peace that all of us seek. We react rationally, and not emotionally; we are able to focus on what is important, and not let little distractions get in the way of work.
