"The Heart of Art" Exhibition
Jendela Gallery
Level 2, Esplanade Mall
12-22 February 2004

A group exhibition of wearable art by designers and artists from London, USA, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Although a small-scale exhibition. It was perhaps one of the exhibitions that I really enjoyed. Exhibits were a well-balanced mix of East and West, traditional and modern; a wonderful sampling of decorative pieces, home furnishings, fashion accessories, and clothes. My fave pieces were the bags designed by Nuria Gambau - "Floral Bee", "Midsummer's Night Dream", "Tinkerbell" - although some of her other works also deserve praise. Her more common pieces can be found at Sagesse - The Object Shop (located on the same level as the gallery). These are cheaper than the pieces that I mentioned as they are simpler in design and more easily duplicated. Those that I like are one-of-a-kind and cost more than $6000 a piece!! My goodness! No wonder my mum said I have expensive taste. Another designer worth mentioning is Sophia Lim. Her creative floral decorative pieces are unlike any that I have ever seen. Intertwining flowers, stems, copper wires, and using simple plain glass vases, she creates floral ecstasy. These two designers' works are truly one of the most enchanting that I've seen.
